Recommend a softphone for use with secure calling and v.4.0?
« on: March 06, 2015, 05:47:39 PM »
If you have upgraded to AskoziaPBX 4.0, enabled secure calling, and configured a softphone, I would be very interested to learn what software you are using and what settings seem to work well.

For myself, I have tried unsuccessfully to set up Zoiper on Windows and Linphone on iOS—but I will readily admit that I may not grasp the subtleties of the necessary settings.

I use X-lite on my computer and Bria on my iphone and ipad.
They work, as far as I know, with secure calling and are great softphones.

I can highly recommend everything from Counterpath.

Up until now, we've been using X-Lite, too, in conjunction with our office VPN. Based on Counterpath's comparison page for their two products, I'm not sure that X-Lite will work:

This afternoon, I had some success with MicroSIP:

     http://www.microsip.org/

which was pretty easy to set up and works with configuration files that could be sent to remote users for ease. But at this point, I may be having codec issues, since I can't hear any audio from the other end of the call.

It wasn't until I looked in the Askozia Handbook that I saw that they demonstrate and recommend Blink Lite, and they also list Ninja (Lite). Both of these appear to support secure calling, so I'm going to try them next.

When freeware is not working you could try the Bria version as in the comparison.
Secure calling is something more specific, so I can understand they want money for those options
Otherwise, take a look at the 3CX softphone.
